in hotels, 1 lunch included. The most exciting and exotic fauna
and flora in the Ibera marshes and around the Iguazu National Park
and Waterfalls. Jesuit missions ruins.
Day 1: CB. Transfer to aeroparque in Buenos Aires for flight
to Posadas. Arrival and transfer by 4WD vehicles southwards to the
heart of the Ibera Marshlands enjoying the stunning landscape punctuated
with different kinds of palms. a green marshy landscape spotted
with different kinds of palm trees. The ranches in this area are
the largest and most important in the country. The local gauchos´
costumes make a strong contrast with the herds of the Bradford and
Brangus cattle, the traditional breed of the region. Arrive Colonia
Carlos Pellegrini on the shores of the Ibera Lagoon. Lodging in
a nice hosteria, dinner. (186 kms, 5 hrs).
Day 2: Full day exploring the Ibera Lagoon & Marshlands
sailing around the marshes and walking in the jungle seeing a combination
of xerophilas and tropical vegetation, groups of Carayas monkeys,
big iguanas, and herds of the biggest rodent: the Carpincho (Capybara).
Also exploring themarshes by canoe seeing the impressive Black Caiman,
the Yacare, the Curiyu snake snake (8 mts. Long) and many different
kinds of birds. Also characteristic flora of this area such as the
Irupe (Victoria Regia, or Giant Royal Water Lily whose leaves can
measure some 2 mts wide). FB. Overnight
Day 3: CB. Free day in the Esteros del Ibera to explore this
fascinating kingdom of nature. FB. Overnight.
Day 4: CB. Back to the road, drive northwards to Posadas
into the Misiones province, the land of the Yerba Mate (the argentinian
green tea) and the jesuit missions which inspired the film “The
Mission”. Visit the Jesuit Missions of Santa Maria (forest
covered) and San Ignacio and its interesting reddish stone ruins
and the Rennaissance museum. Continue driving across fields of Yerba
Mate plantations broken only by tropical rain forest. Arrive at
Puerto Iguazu city, hotel. (488 km, 9 hours).
Day 5: CB. Full day visiting the breathtaking and famous
Iguazu Waterfalls on the Brazilian side of the falls with a short
expedition through the Iguazu National Park forest to watch the
many birds (including toucans) and the jungle vegetation. Culminating
with an exhilarating boat trip close up to the mighty falls. Overnight.
Day 6: CB. Visit to the Argentinian side of the Falls. Transfer
to Puesto Tigre, and then along a jungle track drive in 4WD and
in motor boat to the Yacutinga Lodge in the middle of the jungle.
Lunch and dinner.
Day 7: FD guided walks to see the flora and fauna in the
Misiones rain forest. Sailing along the river to watch river fauna.
FB. Overnight in lodge.
Day 8: CB. departure to Puesto Tigre and then transfer to
the airport.
