EXCURSIONS BY BOAT

Two rivers flow along the border of Foz do Iguassu, the Paraná river and the Iguaçu river. Excursions by boat offer therefore a wonderful opportunity to relax.:

a.- CRUISE AT THE TRIPLE BORDER

The Iguaçu Explorer takes the tourist on a pleasant relaxing cruise on the rivers Paraná and Iguaçu. The boat leaves the boarding point in Porto Meira from Tuesday to Sunday and sails up the Iguaçu river to the bridge “ponte da fraternidade” between Brazil and Argentina There it turns, passes the “Espaço das Americas” and sails in the direction of the friendship bridge, the “Ponte da Amizade”, which connects Brazil and Paraguay.

b.- BERTONI CRUISE

Puerto Bertoni was an old Swiss settlement founded at the end of the 19th century by Moises Santiago Bertoni. The excursion begins in Porto Meira at the boarding point of the Iguaçu Explorer (a yacht with cabin, open deck, bar and solarium with a capacity of 40 passengers). The cruise leads past the “Espaço das Americas”, a modern building at the confluence of the Paraná and Iguaçu rivers, which is designed for festivals and conferences.
The Iguaçu Explorer sails down the Paraná river which divides Brazil and Paraguay and arrives at Puerto Bertoni. The visitor disembarks and walks through an area of fantastic vegetation, some of which is native and some of which has been imported by Moises Bertoni from all the earth ´s continents. After 30 minutes the visitor arrives at the summit and the old wooden house, from where he can enjoy a magnificent view of the river and the surrounding exotic vegetation.
The house contains the rich cultural heritage, which Moises Bertoni and his family left for future generations: Bertoni undertook extensive studies of climate, language, culture, fauna and flora of the region. The house harbours the large library, where his findings are recorded and published.
Although the small settlement was very isolated, Bertoni maintained contact with all cultural centres of the period, especially in Latin America. Today the Museum Bertoni is maintained by the Museum in Geneva, Switzerland.
