CITY TOUR
As with all cities in the Amazon region, Iquitos has no proper
personality. The visit includes the Cathedral, the Casa de Hierro
(Iron House) on the Main Square and the Ex-Hotel Palace, built
in 1908 by the famous French engineer Eiffel and now military
headquarters, the Plaza 28 de Julio, the Casa Pinasco, the Malecón
Tarapacá, with an interesting view of the Amazon, the
Market with typical Amazon fruits and vegetables, the Floating
District of Belen, with houses built upon stakes to withstand
the river tides, and the Municipal Museum.
QUISTOCOCHA LAGOON
The tourist complex at Quistococha Lake is reached by a paved
road and is situated 14 km. south of Iquitos. Besides being a
fish hatchery for Paiche, a large Amazon fish, it offers the visitor
a diversity of regional wildlife such as the Otorongo (Amazon
jaguar), the Ocelote or small tiger, the Sachavaca an animal similar
to a tapir, and a great variety of monkeys and different species
of reptiles.
AMAZONAS SINCHICUY LODGE
Located 30 Km. from Iquitos
This is a tourist lodge on the banks of the Sinchicuy River (affluent
of the Amazon) with 32 double or triple cabins, joined to the
main building by a corridor. They are all built of palm-thatched
wood. It is surrounded by exuberant tropical forest with an abundance
of flowers, birds and butterflies. Nearby there are orchid nurseries,
which are worth visiting. The meals are based on native products
and served buffet style. As with all Amazon lodges it does not
have electricity so it is lit at night by kerosene lamps.

DAY 1: Reception at the airport, a city
tour and transfer to the Sinchicuy Lodge.
Visit to a native Yagua family, to learn about their life style
and customs. Visit to a shore dweller family to observe their
survival agriculture techniques. You will see their homes surrounded
by fruit trees, with a nice view of the Amazonas River, and how
they grow the sugar cane. Nocturnal excursion on foot or by canoe
to enjoy the typical jungle sounds.
DAY 2: At dawn, an excursion by canoe or by foot to watch
birds. After breakfast ecological rustic fishing, with ancient
fishing instruments. Back to Iquitos and transfer to the airport.

DAY 1: Same as day 1 of 2 days program.
DAY 2: Excursion to Shansho Cocha and its surroundings;
this area is known as the Giant Trees Kingdom, where the Lupuna
tree abounds. You can also see the Hoatzin bird, known in the
jungle as shansho, a prehistoric animal with a particular sound.
Back to the lodge. After lunch, an excursion by canoe to observe
the ichthyological fauna of the zone.
DAY 3: After breakfast, a visit to a shore dweller family
to observe their survival agriculture techniques and how they
grow the sugar cane. Back to Iquitos and transfer to the airport.
A&R : TAMBO YANAYACU LODGE
Located 60 Km. from Iquitos
Rustic lodge, on the shores of the Yanayaku River (Amazon affluent),
that lodges 30 people in cabins with private bathrooms, joined
to the recreational areas by corridors. As with all Amazon lodges
it does not have electricity so it is lit at night by kerosene

Reception at the airport, a city tour and transfer to the Sinchicuy
Lodge; during the journey the Boras native community will be
visited to observe their life style, customs and handicrafts
and the Pilpintuwasi breeding zoo that lodges a great variety
of Amazon butterflies. After the arrival at the lodge, these
will be the activities:
Visit to a native Yagua family, to learn about their life style
and customs.
After lunch, a walk around the lodge to know some industrial
and edible plants of the zone.
Visit to a fish hatchery.
Visit to a shore dweller family to observe their survival agriculture
techniques. You will see their homes surrounded by fruit trees,
with a nice view of the Amazonas River, and how they grow the
sugar cane.
Nocturnal excursion on foot or by canoe to enjoy the typical

YANAYAKU LODGE
Transfer to the Yanayaku Lodge.

DAY 3TAMBO YANAYAKU LODGE
Bird watching excursion; at dawn, an excursion to watch a large
bird variety by canoe or by foot depending on the season. Return
to the lodge and breakfast. Transfer to the lodge.
Expedition to the Yagua Cocha jungle and surroundings. Trekking
through a jungle forest where you can see medicine plants and
a variety of insects and butterflies. Lunch.
In the afternoon, we will visit a village to know the customs
and way of life.
DAY 4LODGE TAMBO YANAYACU / IQUITOS
Breakfast and transfer to Iquitos’ airport.

AMAZON RESERVE - TAMBOPATA
The Amazon Reserve – Tambopata (ex Cusco Amazonico Lodge)
is on the left bank of the Madre de Dios River 18 kms away from
Puerto Maldonado and 40 minutes by river. It has a social center
and 42 rustic lodges with private bathrooms made of wood with
palm leaves in the typical style of the local natives. It is
surrounded by exuberant vegetation and offers the minimum comforts
for those who wish a tourist experience in the Amazon rainforest.

Reception at the airport and transfer to the lodge through Madre
de Dios River. In the afternoon, walk around the lodge, with
a native guide, visiting the medicinal plants garden.
Excursion by boat to the Rolín Island or Monkey Island

be visited.
In the afternoon, a visit to a native farm observe the different
Amazonian cultivations and excursion by boat to the Rolín
Island or Monkey Island.

Excursion by boat to Gamitana creek, to watch birds, monkeys,
alligators, turtle eggs (only between April and November), among
other species; and to observe the gold panning in its traditional
and rustic way. When is not possible to observe the gold panning,
it will be replaced by a walk through the virgin jungle.
In the afternoon, a visit to the Fitzcarrald ship, ground inland
long ago and covered by vegetation.

EXPLORER’S INN
This lodge is similar to Cusco Amazonico. However, it has only
30 rooms and a social center. Located on the banks of the Tambopata
River it is three hours away from Puerto Maldonado by boat and
at the gateway of the Natural Reserve. To reach this distant spot,
you need to travel 8 hours by boat on the Tambopata River. We
spend the overnight in a rustic inn (unique atmosphere, with hammocks
and shared bathrooms).
N.B: The clients need to know that there are no electric generators
so as not to break the perfect ecological system so kerosene lamps
are used at night. The water is pumped from the river and may
appear cloudy at times. It is not safe water to drink.

Box lunch
Short hike to a small lagoon and return in time to enjoy a jungle
sunset at Sunset Point. After returning to the lodge we will board
again the canoe for a short night ride to spot caymans on the
river banks with flashlights.

We will start a 3 ½ miles hike to Cocococha oxbow lake.
On the way we will observe exotic plants and insects, colorful
butterflies and birds, monkeys and, with luck, perhaps even some
of the large mammals. At the lake canoes will be available for
riding around it watching the giant river otters and wildlife
on the shoreline

COLLPA OF MACAWS

At daybreak will we go with the canoe 5/6 hours further up the
Tambopata River into untouched Amazon rainforest with superb wildlife
sighting possibilities. We will pass waterfalls, wonderful sandy
beaches with swimming opportunities, interesting basalt rock formations
and some gold panning sites
Box lunch on board. Late in the afternoon will we arrive at the
Macaw Clay lick or Collpa of macaws. This is a 200 meter red soil
cliff, where for still unknown reasons, hundreds of macaws and
other parrot species converge every morning and afternoon to feed
on the mineral rich soil in an unforgettable spectacle of color
and sounds
We will camp at a beach close by and have dinner at camp.

CORTO MALTES
Located on the shores of the Madre de Dios River, 10 kms from
Puerto Maldonado. The lodge 60 hectares and has different jungle
trails to enjoy its fauna and flora. It has 14 wood bungalows
with a private bathroom, restaurant, terrace, bar and a reading
room.
The Corto Maltes excursions and expeditions allow discovering
incredible places such as: the collpa of macaws, the Monkey
Island, the Fitzcarrald ship or the Sandoval Lake, near to the
Tambopata-Candamo National Reserve.

DAY 1
Reception at the airport, a city tour and transfer to the lodge
through Madre de Dios River.
Excursion to visit the Fitzcarrald ship by canoe. In the afternoon,
we walk through the trochas (jungle paths) to appreciate the Amazonian
biodiversity.

At dawn, an expedition to the collpa of macaws, to observe this
beautiful and natural spectacle, where different kind of birds
eat the salt from the clay walls of the collpa. Excursion to the

for giant river otters, birds, fishes and monkeys. At night, an
excursion to find alligators.

Depending the weather, we can go to find animals or for fishing
in the surroundings of the lodge or we can go by boat to La Cachuela,

fishing is possible.
